Will there still be a Child Tax Credit when you claim your taxes for 2008?

Or will that be the last year for it? Because Bush will be out of office? Will McCain or Obama keep it???

I know I repeated this Question. My other account won't let me get to my answers, it comes to a site that says Oops!!!

Will there still be a Child Tax Credit when you claim your taxes for 2008?
Ignore the previous answer.

It will still be there regardless of who is President.

Reply:I have not heard of anything from Congress that would change the Child Tax Credit. It is not likely that McCain or Obama can do any changes for 2008 because they do not take office until January 2009. The Congress makes the tax laws by sending a bill to the President and the President signs the bills into law.

I would really be surprised if any changes were ever made to the Child Tax Credit. This credit is at least in part a way for Congress to shore up Social Security. By giving the Child Tax Credit, Congress is hoping that people will have more children and in a few years these children will start working and paying into Social Security.
Reply:I can't imagine that either candidate would try to dump the child tax credit, or that Congress would agree even if they did.. It's good for this year yet (unless Congress votes to dump it, a MOST unlikely scenario) but should be long term I'd think.
Reply:I would say better chances with McCain. Obama wants to raise taxes.

If you wish to ignore this answer as wayne z suggests than by all means do so. I was expressing my opinion and only my opinion.
