I recently heard about child tax credit. Can you tell me more?

I would like to know how low income has to be in order to be entitled to it.Or any other financial assistance I may receive instead.

I recently heard about child tax credit. Can you tell me more?
I don't have any of my paperwork to hand, but if memory serves me correctly, there are two elements to child tax credit. One element is your income, and the other is the amount you spend on child care.

My joint income with my husband is in excess of £40kpa, so we don't get anything from the income element. I don't know what the threshold is, but it's definitely below that level. However, we also pay over £600pm on child care, so we do get an allowance for that - at the moment, it's about £40pm.

It's not a difficult application - I completed ours at the same time that I filled out the child benefit form. You just need your annual statement of earnings to hand (P60) for yourself and your partner (if applicable). You might as well apply. If you get something, then all well and good. If you don't, then you've wasted 15 minutes filling the form in - not exactly a big deal.

Good luck!

Reply:Child Tax Credit is for people who are responsible for at least one child or qualifying young person. Child Tax Credit is paid direct to the person who is mainly responsible for caring for the child or children. If you are a lone parent you will receive the payment. Child Tax Credit can be paid to workers who continue to pay UK National Insurance Contributions when posted from the UK to work in another country in the European Economic Area.

The amount of tax credits you receive will depend on your annual income. This should give you more of an idea:

All families with children can claim Child Tax Credit if their income is no more than £58,175 a year (up to £66,350 if you have a child under one).

You don’t have to be the child's parent to be eligible, but you must be the main person who's responsible for them.

Nine out of ten families with children can get tax credits. Child Tax Credit is a means-tested allowance for parents and carers of children or young people who are still in full-time education or approved training.

The amount you get depends on various things, including your annual income.

Good Luck.
