Did the General Sales Tax credit get back into the 2006 tax code?

See line 5 of Schedule A. All the IRS publications are very unclear. They say it expired but that there was legislation to keep it going. I cannot confirm it has been or hasn't. Please help!

Did the General Sales Tax credit get back into the 2006 tax code?
Yes it did, but too late to have a dedicated line on the form and booklets, though tax software does have it included.

To claim it on a paper return see the details in the article in the reference line
Reply:Yes it is still an Itemized deduction, you would claim it on Line 5 of the Schedule A and write in on the dotted line Sales tax to identitfy whether you are taking the Income or Sales Tax.
Reply:Yes it made it back. They are mailing additional information to taxpayers who recieved 1040 booklets. You can deduct sales tax or state income tax.
Reply:Yes, but too late for the hard printed forms.

The online services do have the updated software tho, so maybe you can use one of the free efiles ?
