How do you know if you can claim child tax credit for your child?

There are three requirements: Your child must be under 17 (not including 17), a US citizen, and claimed as a dependent on your return.

How do you know if you can claim child tax credit for your child?
I saw your other question...you are really asking this as it pertains to the tax rebate.

Look at your 2007 tax return that you filed. There is a check box to the right of your child's name and social security number (you did claim your child as a dedendent, right?). This check box is where you claim that your child qualifies for the child tax credit.

Is that check box checked?

The child has to be 16 or under to qualify.
Reply:A qualifying child for this credit is someone who meets the following criteria:

• Age - Was under age 17 at the end of 2007

• Relationship - Is your son, daughter, adopted child, stepchild or eligible foster child, brother, sister, stepbrother, stepsister, or a descendant of any of these individuals

• Citizenship - Is a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or resident of the U.S.

• Support - Did not provide over half of his or her own support, and

• Lived with you - Must have lived with you for more than half of 2007 (note that some exceptions to this criteria exist)

The credit is limited if your modified adjusted gross income is above a certain amount. The amount at which this phase-out begins varies depending on your filing status:

• Married Filing Jointly $110,000

• Married Filing Separately $ 55,000

• All others $ 75,000
Reply:if the child has lived with you at least 6 months and you work you can claim head of household with a child dependent and as long as you didnt make like over 75000 you can get it
Reply:If the child is in the home for the last 12 months and you get proof that the child or children is on your lease agreement. also if the child is under the age of 18 and living with you.
