Yes you may claim child tax credit as long as you have a qualifying child. If your unemployment had no federal tax withheld and was a significant amount, you may owe some tax on it. The child tax credit of $1,000 per qualifying child will help to offset the tax owed to 0. Go to www.irs.gov and look up Form 8812. If any part of your child tax credit is unused to offset tax....some of the remaining credit may be refundable to you.
